Domain transfer · Claim in the Name Trust Lifecycle

Transfer your domain. Stay online.

A domain transfer moves your domain's registration from one registrar to another without changing who owns it. To transfer to CertPing, unlock the domain at your current registrar, request the authorization (EPP) code and start the transfer in CertPing. CertPing copies your DNS records first, so your website and email stay online. Most transfers complete in five to seven days.

Why move your domain

Domains often sit at one registrar, DNS at another and certificates somewhere else. Each place has its own renewal date, login and settings to get wrong.

Moving the domain to CertPing puts registration, DNS, SSL and phishing checks for the name in one dashboard.

What CertPing does during a transfer

  • 01

    Copies your DNS first

Your existing DNS records are copied before the move, so the website and email keep working.

  • 02

    Adds a year

The transfer adds one year to the registration.

  • 03

    Locks the domain afterwards

The registrar lock is on by default, so the domain can't be transferred out again without your approval.

  • 04

    Keeps your details private

WHOIS privacy is included, so your name, email address and phone number are redacted from public WHOIS and RDAP records.

How to transfer a domain to CertPing

  1. 1

    Unlock the domain

At your current registrar, turn off the registrar lock (also called the transfer lock).

  2. 2

    Get the authorization code

Request the authorization code, also called the EPP code or auth code, from your current registrar.

  3. 3

    Start the transfer in CertPing

Enter the domain and the code in CertPing. Your DNS records are copied before the move.

  4. 4

    Approve and wait

Most transfers complete in five to seven days once the current registrar approves.

What you get

  • The domain registered at CertPing with one year added.
  • Your DNS records already in place.
  • Registrar lock, WHOIS privacy, DNS hosting with DNSSEC and email forwarding included.
  • Renewal reminders 30, 7 and 1 day before each renewal date.

Limits and what you need to do

  • You have to unlock the domain and request the code yourself. Only your current registrar can provide it.
  • Timing depends on the current registrar. Five to seven days is typical, not guaranteed.
  • A domain registered or transferred recently may not be eligible to move yet. Your current registrar can tell you.

01How do I transfer a domain to CertPing?

Unlock the domain at your current registrar, request the authorization (EPP) code, and start the transfer in CertPing. Most transfers complete in five to seven days. The transfer adds one year to the registration.

02What is an EPP code?

An EPP code, also called an authorization or auth code, is a password for a domain that the current registrar issues to its owner. The new registrar needs it to request the transfer.

03What is a registrar lock?

A registrar lock, or transfer lock, stops a domain from being transferred to another registrar. You turn it off to transfer out. At CertPing the lock is on by default after the domain arrives.

04Will my website or email go down during a transfer?

CertPing copies your DNS records before the move, so the website and email keep resolving while the transfer completes.

05How long does a domain transfer take?

Most transfers to CertPing complete in five to seven days once the current registrar approves. Timing depends on that registrar.

06Does a transfer change my renewal date?

Yes. The transfer adds one year to the registration, and CertPing shows the transfer and renewal price before you start.
