RDAP help
RDAP, the Registration Data Access Protocol, is the standard way to look up who registered a domain name and how. CertPing runs an RDAP service for the domains it registers. Use of the service is subject to the RDAP terms of service.
Querying the service
Send a request for a domain to https://rdap.certping.com/domain/example.com. Responses are JSON as defined by RFC 9083 and the ICANN RDAP profiles. Opening the same address in a browser shows a readable lookup page.
The service answers only for domains for which CertPing is the registrar of record. For other domains, use the RDAP service of their registrar or registry.
What is published
- the domain name, its registry ID when known, and its statuses (explained on ICANN's EPP status codes page);
- registration, expiry and last-changed dates;
- nameservers and DNSSEC delegation data;
- CertPing as registrar, with its abuse contact; and
- the registrant's state or province and country.
What is withheld
The registrant's and technical contact's name, street address, city, postal code, phone, fax and email address are withheld. Each response lists every withheld element in its redaction notices. Instead of an email address, each record carries a link to contact the registrant.
Contacting a registrant
Follow the contact link in the record, or open certping.com/rdap/contact/your-domain.com. CertPing does not disclose the registrant's details through this route.
Reporting abuse or inaccurate data
To report abuse involving a domain registered through CertPing, such as phishing, malware or spam, use the registrar abuse contact published in the record. To report inaccurate registration data, use ICANN's inaccuracy complaint form.
Rate limits
Queries are rate limited per client network. A refused request returns HTTP 429; wait before retrying. Bulk or automated access beyond the limits is not offered.
